Frequently Asked Questions
Having a problem? Can't figure something out? You've come to the right place. This FAQ contains many of the most frequently asked questions about our themes, icons, add-ons and RapidWeaver in general.

  • What is RapidWeaver?
RapidWeaver is a revolutionary but friendly piece of web design software made exclusively for the Mac. It will help you create and publish beautiful modern sites, compliant with today's web standards.

For more information about RapidWeaver, please visit the Realmac Software site. We think you'll absolutely love this piece of software. There is also a demo version of RapidWeaver available, so give it a try.

  • What are my payment options?
We use PayPal to process our payments, but you don't have to be a PayPal member or have a PayPal account to buy our themes, icons, add-ons or anything else we sell.

You can use a credit card, funds located in your PayPal account if you have one, or an e-check. The e-check option that PayPal offers takes 7-10 days, on average, to clear. So while orders processed with a credit card or PayPal funds will allow you to download your theme right away, e-checks must clear the bank before our distribution provider, e-junkie, will allow you access to your download.

Immediately following your completed payment transaction, e-junkie sends you an e-mail with a link to your download. This link can be used 9 times before it expires. So hang onto this e-mail in case you lose your theme, delete it accidentally or have a hard drive crash.

  • What is e-junkie?
E-junkie is our downloads distributor. Once you purchase a product from our site, e-junkie magically takes over and delivers a download link to your e-mail address. E-junkie uses the e-mail address you have provided to PayPal, so this is the address to which your product download link will be sent to.

  • How do I install my new, freshly purchased theme?
To install your new theme, double-click the theme icon. RapidWeaver will install the theme and then pop up a dialog box informing you that the theme is installed and that you now need to quit and restart RapidWeaver.

After exiting and then restarting RapidWeaver, you will find your theme installed and ready to use inside the theme drawer. Press Option-Command-T to bring up the theme drawer.

If you're upgrading from a previous version of a theme, you will need to delete your old version before installing the new one. To do so, right-click (or crtl-click) on the theme in the theme drawer and select delete. After deleting the previous version, follow the above steps to install the new version.

Be warned: Deleting your theme will get rid of any data stored in it, such as custom headers, modified code, customized graphics, etc. Be sure to back up the data before deleting your old theme, if necessary.

  • Do you support modified or customized themes?
While we are fine with users digging deep into a theme and customizing it for use on their site, we cannot, as a small company, offer support for themes that have been modified internally from their original form. We simply do not have the time that this would require.

We also cannot offer support to those who want to modify a theme. We do recommend the Realmac Software forums as a great place to go to get help modding and customizing your theme.

We do not support custom code inserted into a theme by yourself or a third-party user, nor do we offer support for a theme that has been modified internally.

Adding custom code to a theme is also included in this category.

  • Do you offer support for building sites using your themes?
We do not support the content that you enter into RapidWeaver in order to build your site. This includes all text, images and code, which includes CSS, HTML, XHTML, Javascript, Flash, PHP, et al.

Support regarding content you've added to RapidWeaver can be garnered from the Realmac Software support forums.

  • How do I know what variations a theme offers?
Each product pages lists and describes the products variations and options to the best of our ability. We also include a live preview site which is published using that theme. In addition to these two things we also provide a walk-thru video for the majority of our themes taking you through the page inspector's variations palette one item at a time.

You can find all of this on each individual product page, all of which can be accessed on the main Themes page here.

  • I did not receive my theme upgrade — how do I get it?
If you have purchased a theme that has been upgraded, but did not receive the new download link via e-mail, this could be due to a couple of things:
    • Your mail program may have filtered the update e-mail out as junk mail.
    • You may have changed your e-mail address since your purchase.

To solve this problem, first check your junk mail folder to be sure the download link is not there. If it is not, you will need to do the following to receive your upgrade: Use our contact form to send us a message. In doing so, let us know what theme, or themes, you did not receive an upgrade for, and attach a copy of either your original PayPal receipt or your original e-junkie download e-mail. This will make the process of receiving your upgrade much quicker. Please be sure to also give us the e-mail address where you would like to receive future theme upgrades so we can add it to our product(s) listing.

  • Can I use your theme(s) without using RapidWeaver?
No. Our themes are developed exclusively for use with RapidWeaver. Doing otherwise, without the written permission of elixir graphics is not permitted in any form and invalidates our end user license. To inquire about using a theme, or any of the theme's related code or graphics, with anything other than RapidWeaver, send us an e-mail via our contact form.

  • I want to modify an elixir theme. Can you help me?
    insiderwcss
Unfortunately we are not able to help every individual that wishes to modify their theme. If you would like to go forward in making changes, modifications or customizations to your theme, I would like to recommend Inside RapidWeaver. They offer an electronic book titled RWcss, which helps guide you through some of the trials and tribulations of modifying your theme.

Once you have modified your theme, we cannot assist you in fixing any problems that might arise from the changes you implemented.

Modifications can range from changing the graphics included in the theme to editing the HTML and CSS coding.

We fully support the code and graphics we have created for the stock themes.

  • My pages don't seem to be formatted after publishing — I just see code.
Most likely, your CSS files did not get uploaded during the publishing of your site. This is an easy fix though, so no need to fret.

Simply Mark All Pages as Changed, and then Clear the Publishing Cache. These two options can both be found in RapidWeaver's File menu. After choosing both of these, save your project file and republish your site. This will force RapidWeaver to re-upload all of the files associated with your site, including the CSS files.

Update: In RapidWeaver 4.0 and before, the two above steps — Mark All Pages as Changed and Clear the Publishing Cache — have been changed a little. Now, Mark All Pages as Changed and then choose Re-Publish All Files from the File menu.

You can also find a video of this process in our videos section.

  • How do I install my custom headers in Candy?
Candy has a ton of different page header styles built in. Thirty-eight to be exact. Yes. 38!

Those 38 header choices include the ability to use the RapidWeaver color picker, professionally designed stock headers and 10 blank header slots for use with RWmultitool or your own headers.

We've also set all of the page headers up to be easily accessed and edited via RWmultitool so that you can customize them on the fly.

For instructions on using RWmultitool, please see their site, where you can also download a free trial version.

You can user RapidWeaver's logo feature (found in the Site Setup pane) to add a logo to the header area. The maximum logo size is 150 x 150 px.

We also offer a PDF on creating and installing Candy headers, which you can access here.

  • How do I install my custom headers in Paper or Plastic?
With both Paper and Plastic, we have created a series of Add-On Expansion Pack headers as well as set up a way for you to add your own custom headers. These Expansion packs are crafted especially for each theme, and custom headers are easy to create.

It is as easy as creating an image in the dimensions of 438px x 210px and adding it to the correct folder. You can also download or purchase professionally designed expansion packs from our Add-Ons page.

After you have created this image, save it as a JPEG file with the file name expansion1.jpg (or expansion2.jpg, extpansion3.jpg, all the way through expansion6.jpg).

After saving your file, open the theme drawer in Rapidweaver and right-click (or ctrl-click) on the Paper or Plastic theme and select Show Contents. The theme's content folder will open. Then open the folder titled CSS. Here you will find a folder named expansion. This is where you will copy your custom-designed or purchased expansion pack headers and their related CSS.

After copying your header files to this location, they will be selectable in the theme's variations under the Header Style variation.

Be sure to keep backup copies of all of your custom-designed or purchased theme headers in case you ever decide to install a new one over top of the headers that may be installed in your expansion slot folder.

  • How do I install my custom headers in Sprout?
The headers in our Sprout theme work a little differently than in other themes. With 3 widths available in this theme, we needed an easy way for one header to work with all 3 widths.

So as to not have an excess of files and unnecessary variations, we use one header file that spans the large width and is cropped down for the medium and small widths.

If you'd like to create custom headers, it's as easy as editing the headers that come with the theme. Right-click (or ctrl-click) on the theme within Rapidweaver's theme drawer and select Show Contents. Within this folder, you'll find a folder titled CSS. Inside the CSS folder is a folder titled Headers. This folder contains the CSS files for each header as well as a folder titled Images. You can open the Images folder and modify or replace any of the image files with your own.

  • How do I install my own custom headers in Chameleon?
We've made it easy for you to customize your site with custom header files in Chameleon. It's as easy as creating an image in the dimensions of 760px x 235px and adding it to the correct folder. You can also download or purchase professionally designed expansion packs from our Add-Ons page as well.

After you have created this image, save it as a PNG file with the file name expansion.png (or expansion2.png, expansion3.png, all the way through expansion8.png).

After saving your file, open the theme drawer in Rapidweaver and right-click (or ctrl-click) on the Chameleon theme and select Show Contents. The theme's content folder will open. Then open the Images folder. Here you will find two folders that represent the two expansion slots found in the theme's variations. These folders, named expansion1 and expansion2, will be where you copy your custom-designed or purchased expansion pack headers.

After copying your headers to one of these two locations, they will be selectable in the theme's variations under either Expansion Pack 1 or Expansion Pack 2, depending on where you placed your files.

Be sure to keep backup copies of all of your custom-designed or purchased theme headers in case you ever decide to install a new one over top of the headers that may be installed in your expansion slot folders.

  • I bought the Accordion extras, but how do I use them?
Our Accordion Extras are a great way to customize your Accordion page. They're quite easy to use. Simply put the files into a folder wherever you'd like. Then choose the tab labeled Image under the Titles heading within Accordion. Choose one of our Accordion Extras and drag and drop it into the Background Image area. You will need to adjust the size settings of the title under the tab labeled Structure, making it the same size as the Accordion Extras image.

We also have a video showing how to do this.

  • Can I change the background on the Paper and Plastic themes?
    The short answer is no.

The background for these themes is interlinked with the main content area. They share a common area where the shadow of the content area overlaps with background. In order to change the background color you would need to modify the graphics contained within the theme itself. This is not something we offer as part of our support.

  • Can I change the width of Chameleon's content area?
No. The width of the Chameleon theme is a fixed width setup. The content area of the Chameleon theme is composed of a set of graphics, which helps in making the theme both aesthetically pleasing and cross-browser compatible. To change the width of the theme would require modifying not only the internal CSS coding, but would also require editing the graphics which compose the theme.

  • Can I change the height of Chameleon's header?
No. Chameleon's header is a fixed height. This is to allow continuity between expansion packages and custom headers. To change the height of the header, you would need to edit the theme's code as well as the images included in the theme. We do not directly support these sorts of changes.

  • Can I change the width of Aqua theme?
No. The width of the Aqua theme is a fixed width setup. The content area of the Aqua theme is composed of many graphics, which helps in making the theme both aesthetically pleasing and cross-browser compatible. To change the width of the theme would require modifying not only the internal CSS coding, but would also require editing the graphics which compose the theme.

  • What browsers are compatible with sites created with your themes?
Sites that are developed in RapidWeaver using our themes work in the following browsers:

    Safari — Mac and PC
    FireFox — Mac and PC
    Internet Explorer 7 — PC
    Internet Explorer 6 — PC

While we do support Internet Explorer 6 and 7 currently, we do not support Internet Explorer for the Mac. We have chosen not to do so as Microsoft has killed this product and they too no longer support it.

At some point, we will discontinue support for Internet Explorer 6 as well, but not until Internet Explorer 7 sees a much higher adoption rate. This change will occur due to version 7's better standards compliance.

  • Will your themes work with MacDock's iSell?
Yes, as far as we know, all of our themes work with iSell. In fact, the base iSell template is based off a modified version of our Chameleon theme.
